BIOGRAFIE- ENG

Born in 1956 in the polish city of Katowice, Roland Schefferski studied at the State Institute for Visual Arts Wroclaw. In 1984 he established a residence in Berlin-Kreuzberg, from where he has participated in numerous exhibition-projects within and beyond Germany.Within his works of the past decades, Roland Schefferski has charted a very independent artistic path. Working on the cusp between the art industry and everyday life, he utilises the formats of Environments, Installations or Objects. Parallel to his exhibitions in traditional sites, such as museums and commercial galleries, his Actions and Interventions have increasingly focussed on areas outside of these established art sites. This artist seeks to investigate if his works can stand for themselves and can also step into a world, which is filled with its own stories, expectations and projections. This continuous dialogue on the borderline between the art world and the stage of everyday life (that of the personal and the human) had become for Schefferski an important aspect of his artistic practice. He is on a search for answers to the condition of our reality” and its relation to that of the visual arts.
